but the also said that only works with the later engines (the ones with the GM bolt pattern)

cof course you can get vauxhall bellhousings for type 9 boxes etc.....

Its not power which kills gearboxes; its torque..

Anyway - any post-94 Saab engine should bolt to a GM gearbox, available in two main flavours - the R25 and R28 (from an Omega). This is the torque rating in Nm/10, so an R28 box will take 280Nm happily. Unfortunately, this box is only found in the 3.0 Omega and manual 3.0's are a little rare. The R25 is much more common, being used in the 2.0 and 2.5 versions. Just keep a supply of them handy?
