
Hi all,
Have had a really frustrating morning pulling my engine out and back in again....
History - fitted a type 9 v6 box with an a-frame spacing adapter. Last week found a problem with the clutch not disengaging (1st time tested), and
decided that there was something wrong with the clutch or the way I fitted it.... so pulled the engine, fitted another quality clutch (which was
different) and put it all back in... no diffference
After trying various things including spacing the engine 5mm or so from the box, it has now become clear that the clutch is fine, but the engine is
binding to the inputshaft. Joy.
Now not sure what to do - do I make another adapter or make a thicker spacer plate, or cut down the input shaft (don't really want to do
this!).
Any thoughts welcome

isnt there supposed to be a steel plate between bellhousing and engine?? Have you fitted this?? Should gain you another mm which may be enough if i'm right in thinking its the end of the input shaft jamming on the crank where it sits in the spigot bearing??
buy a spacer to fit between the gearbox and bell housing. there are a couple of companies who do this including caterham and a cheaper one who's name slips my mind just now
thanks for the suggestions guys but i've got both the splash plate and the bellhousing spacer adaptor (from A-Frame) in, I'm thinking the
second is just not thick enough...

Have you checked that the spigot bearing isn't siezed which would cause your symptoms?. Are you able to adjust the clutch free play? Does the clutch arm move enough? Correct pedal ratio ? A few things to be getting on with , it's likely to be something simple
haven't checked spigot, but as it starts working (engine free and clutch works) if I space by 5mm I'm not sure the symptoms allign? Clutch arm ok as above.
how thick is the spacer ? i looked at the a frame one, and to me it wasnt thick enough
i am still looking into what i am going to buy
spacer has effective 'spacing' off ~25mm (not very easy to measure in location!).
others i have seen are 32mm
but they are also a lot dearer!
figures - would work if it was that thick!
Have e-mailed RWD motorsport so will wait and see what they have to say....
v6 type 9 input shaft is longer so this might cause the problem.
I have the caterham one and it's 30mm thick - works a treat. Think that may be your problem.

as an interim slacken the bellhousing bolts and shim the box from the engine test to see if you see any change if so then definitley a spacer issue
have they answered the question yet ?
