FAO Flakmonkey - tranny thermostat?
FASTdan - 30/11/09 at 09:35 AM

Sorry I'd U2U but for some reason my work browser doesnt allow me to.

The transit thermostat for use on the duratec - is it from a 2.3 petrol or diesel if thats not a daft question? anymore info on it that might allow me to source one from a factors rather than ford - for cheapness?

Cheers

If it's the non-electric one you are after then the Mazda 3/6 and the Focus were mechanical.
Mondeos were electric.

82deg mech one works really well. Cosworth sell them too, and they are not too bad on price.

2.3 petrol, as doofus says there were other models fitted with the same stat as well.

You are looking for the non electrically heated one

Do you have to buy the whole housing or is the thermostat component interchangeable?

I've just had a quote of only £15 from a factor who assures me its a duratec item, but given that you guys are quoting £30-40 this doesnt sound right?

Just wondering if the higher prices are because you actually need the full housing and not just the stat itself?

You need the whole thing, the thermostat is moulded into the housing, it cannot be changed.

Make sure he is quoting for a proper Duratec stat and not a Duratec badged Zetec...

grrrr thats exactly what i thought. i specified a 56 focus 2.0 to try eliminate any discrepencies but he insisted the duratec had been around since 2000 and that it'd be £15 - one of those moments where you realise you are onto a loosing battle.

Its been around since 2000 in the mondeo but not the focus.

It has only recently started to be put in the focus. 2006 sounds about right though.
