My Trooper Engine has let go!!!!

I know its not the Indy but my Trooper engine had a heart attack this morning on the way to work.
Not 300 yards up the road from home a wisp of smoke from the bonnet scoop alerted me to things amiss and then the oil pressure guage headed south and
the oil light came on.
I managed to get it back the 300 yards to my drive and on lifting the bonnet there was a light splattering of oil around the top of the engine bay.
I haven't had a chance to get into it yet and won't until the weekend so I don't know how bad it is but I am completely pi**ed off!
Mainly because if it snows tonight I wanted to play with the 4x4 in it and now I can't.
I'm not over worried about the oil problem as I will find out whats wrong and fix it but why couldn't it happen when the weather was
better!
Anyway just wanted to winge.... sorry share.

Doh! If it makes you feel better I've just broken down on the motorway in the snow. Waiting 2 hours for aa fleet recovery

my first thought too, doubt it would have caused much damage as the engines not been run very long so the turbo would have been quite cool

dont wish to scare you and im sure yours is something minor but, i had a swb 3.1 a few years back that had a cracked head. it over heated very
suddenly while towing a trailer and a piston picked up the liner in the block. turns out they are well known for cracking heads so no 2nd hand
available. new head £1000, full rebuild another £1000.

THe car didn't overheat and it was still running fine. I've just come back in and been underneath it (this is NOT the weather to be under a
car outside). Looks like the oil has existed from near the oil filter. Which if is the case I'm about to hang someone as the car had an oil
change last weekend by a local "Nationwide Motor Discount" place. To soon to tell but feeling miffed right now as well as bl**dy freezing

I had a Trooper for a year over in Cyprus. Best general purpose car/truck/tank I ever owned.

I guess you have the answer there. Either they didn't screw the filter on properly or didn't clean up dirt around it before scewing it
on.
If it makes you feel any better Suzuki GSXR600s (the older ones IIRC) used to have the same problem, spitting their oil filters off. The recall
involved giving the oil filter an extra half turn when being installed beyond service manual spec.

Not that an "experienced" oil monkey will do, but I did once forgot to check the filter removed for the oil Ring which stayed stuck to the
filter base, so when I reinstalled the new one there were two gaskets.
Except for the mess on my garage, this posed no problem as I always check for leaks before driving out.

Got my Trooper back yesterday (5 days off theroad as the garage I had it taken to was snowed in and only had a skeleton crew on).
Anyway as suspected the oil filter had a seal blown out lucily there was no other damage.
I went back to the Nationwide Autocentre oil filter in hand last night for a "little chat" and the Manager simply put his hands up and said
"regardless of the filter being defective or my man fitting it incorrectly it is our fault and has refunded me both the cost of the original oil
change and the cost I accurred at the other garage. He couldn't do anything about the loss of 5 days.
All in all I am satisfied that he has done the right thing especially as he didn't even put up an argument.
Its great to have the Trooper back especially in these conditions.
