Air filters

What do we reckon?

I am looking for a single air filter for the inlet of the supercharger.

Needs to have a 3" connection.

Pleated K&N style? or Pipercross Foam?

Running roller throttles I know filtration has to be top notch. I think foam filters better than cotton?

What are peoples experiences with the cheaper ebay style airfilters. Which are £15 compared to £75+ for either K&N or Pipercross.

I had foam filters on the pinto and they were very good.

I've always found apexi one to work very well on forced induction cars

NEVER use foam filters on super/turbo applications.

Small bits of the foam and grit get sucked off the inside of of the foam and if there is any oil present in the super/turbo it gets turned into a grinding paste and destroys everything.

Its worst with the G-ladder superchargers (fitted to mk2 golfs and corrados) as they have apex seals and get destroyed rather quickley.

So 'paper' style ones only

OK, so cotton filter it is then.

Next thing is, is there any benefit for going to a £75 K&N over a £15 ebay jobbie?

Hi Flak, I have found that if you use the proper oil, (K & N), to collect the crap then the cheap ebay ones work fine. The cotton and wire mesh "seem" to be identical. Cheers Ray
