ZZR1100 carbs on a pinto
lotusmadandy - 29/1/10 at 08:17 PM

I have just fitted a set of the above on my mates Robin Hood 2B and am starting to pull my hair out (i dont have much to start with)

It starts and runs at tickover lovely and will rev up cleanly. The problem is on no4 carb, the slide just will not lift on the throttle. Now heres the strange bit,the original diaphram on the carb was split and it was lifting, albeit slowly.

I have tried 8 different diaphrams and lids to no avail despite having a good seal on the cap. With the engine running i can remove the cap and put my finger over the vacum hole and feel the vacum on my finger tip.
I am probably missing something stupid but its doing my box in.

Any ideas?

I take it the carbs have been balanced ?

lotusmadandy - 29/1/10 at 08:45 PM

Yes Jacko,i balanced them as soon as i got it warmed up.They were only slightly out but a few tweaks and it idles lovely.
I have one of those sets with four separate gauges.

Sticking slide is it nice and smooth when you lift it up ?
How about swapping that top etc with one of the others and see if the problem moves

Not too sure about the make-up of the carbs, but is it possible there maight be a split/crack in the carb body? Or maybe a warp in the cover or something?

Just my input.

The slide is nice and smooth when you lift it with plenty of vacum on the way back down.

I have checked the carb body and there are no cracks at all and i have tried eight different lids and slides.

Daddylonglegs, ALL input is greatly recieved

Might be worth doing a compression check? Tight tappet clearances can cause all sorts of problems

or is the throttle butterfly actually opening on that cylinder.
and on my zx6rs is a small O ring next to the diaphram ?

The compression is fine ,as are the valve clearances.

I have checked the o ring on the diaphram,on the zzr1100 carbs it is a brass collar and it is prescent. There is loads of vacum at the hole on the top of the carb, the only thing i need to check is the fit of the silicone hose joiner used to fit the carbs to the manifold.

Dave has replaced it on that carb, maybe it isnt fitted properly on the carb?
