zx9r carb throttle cable
cd.thomson - 1/2/10 at 09:53 AM

fitted new brakes to my bike this weekend (i can stop again, woo!)

I bought an extra brake cable to use for the throttle, but can't see how i can get it to fit on the carbs.

any tips?

There should be a quadrant either in the middle or on the end of your carb bank, this takes 6mm barrel nipples IIRC, one for the opening cable and one for the closer.

There should be two forks above the quadrant which take the adjusters, usually the closing cable isn't used and is replaced by a return spring.

whats a quadrant, i thought that just meant "area"?

sorry pete, ive got that monday morning stupid feeling!

It looks like a cable originally fitted to a mechanism in the middle of the four carbs - which i manual operate to rev the engine. I just can't physically see an attachment point for the cable.

these are zz1100 carbs think the linkage should be the same, its a bit of a tight job.
The cable geos under the front and under then into quadrant.

The bit you operate is the quadrant, it should have two holes in it, and a groove round its circumference, the cable nipple slides in the hole sideways, and the cable runs round the groove.

As per above, two cables on a bike, one going each way round, to pull the carbs open or closed.

Its easier to take them off, but i fitted my with the carbs in place, fiddley and reqiures a lot of foul language.

It is extremely fiddly, and it will jump out easily when you fit it, and annoyingly when you try to remove it, it will slip back into place.

and yes a soundproof workshop is a bonus...
