if the engine is from the mondeo the water pump turns the wrong way the escort pumps are what you need.

No the 1.8 pump is the correct one to use,2.0 engines need an idler pulley or 1,8 pump to get the correct direction of rotation.

Hi Flick,
I fitted a Mondeo 1.8 Silvertop Zetec to my car. You will DEFINITELY need to change the water pump. The pump you need is from a Mk4/5 Escort.
Take your old pump with you for comparison. The correct Escort pump will look identical EXCEPT for the impellor vanes, which curve in the opposite direction.
You will also need to fit a grooved pulley to your new pump as you will be driving it from the inside of the belt, and not on the outside as in the Mondeo.

If you're fitting a fairly unknown engine then i'd change the water pump and cam belt kit as a matter of course regardless of its rotation. Changing the water pump is a cambelt off job and tough to do when in the car so for what they cost........

Not fitted the engine yet, trying to get everything right before fitting. Knowing my luck ill fit it and end up having to remove it several times to rectify errors made...................... Im beggining to think I should of stuck with bike engines..................

Pumps don't turn the wrong way, they just turn whichever way Ford intended.

If the pump pulley is smooth it runs off the back of the belt which is conterclockwise IE: 'wrong'

If the belt has grooves aka the belt it goes clockwise UE: 'right'

So, heres mine, smooth pulley running 'wrong'/'backwards'.

Hope that helps.
Steve

Unless you re-route the drive belt, then they get turned the wrong way...
