Interesting Doo-Dah's (RS4 Oilways)
scootz - 17/2/10 at 09:14 PM

As I wanted to remove the AC and PS units from the RS4 engine, I thought that as the engine was 'open' anyway, then I might as well go the whole hog and take out the drive gears too! Every little (HP) helps!

Proved a little trickier than anticipated... mainly because the RS4 lump has so many tiny oilways and it's a nightmare tracing them back to source!

Even has them in the gears themselves for their lubrication (see pics)!

Think I've helped the core-plug industry no end post-recession!

Christ that looks complicated...

I thought the pinto was bad enough

cant you just machine the teeth off? i wouldn't want to modify the oil system, looks like a complicated setup.

i'd leave them well alone myself.

^^^^^^ PMSL

In for a penny in for a poud eh!

Absolutely... !!!

There's no problem as the oilway for each gear was self-contained and core-plugs either side of the pump-shafts holes ensure that flow is uninterrupted.

I'm waiting for the call from Audi to ask me about this engineering wizardry, but they can f**k right off...

It's mine - ALL MINE! Mwaaaahaaaahaaaaahaaaa

Re: tuning an RS4

I think I might have another answer for audi: that car would be so much quicker if it wasn't so lardy - the 'avant' weighs in at ~1850kg (the boss has got one) thats the same as a LWB landrover!

for starters its back seats don't have nearly enough leg room - so they can go

then there must be a good few hundred kilos of sound proofing and trim thats not needed

then there is the electricly adjustable everything - so that can all go

then the AC, sat nav.... etc, so by this stage you'd need an altenator/battery 1/4 the size

and so on, then stick your engine back in - I've suggested this to the boss but he doesn't seem all that keen
