Cant open repackable exhaust can!!

Have drilled the rivets out and can hardly move the end section and pipe. I've taken a rubber mallet to it with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Seriously, can you get a thin screw driver down the flange to try to lever it out?

if at first you dont suceed.... use a bigger hammer

Can you get a twisting motion on it? might help loosen it up, are you sure all the rivets are drilled out properly? If you jst drill the center out, there could just be enough of the outer casing of the rivet to hold it in place

It's VERY tight. All rivets are out as it will move about 3mm and can see the holes offset. Tried wiggling, twisting and pulling. Not much room down the side if any but I'll try to get something in there tomorrow.

Is it possible to open the 'wrong' end?

i.e., is one end welded to the perforated tube and the other not?

Yep.. the engine end is welded, the pipe end pop riveted.

put a rubber bung in one end and preasurize it...it will pop out...

I have a party balloon pump somewhere.

Maybe a bug and gaffer tape and then put back on the car and start her up?

dont worry about the bung just start it and give it a good rev. it will pop out. make sure you put something in front of the rear arch to stop it hitting it. i found out the hard way

we have a pair of motorbike exhausts in work at the moment that are dented...

we remove the dents by bunging one end, and fitting a flange on the other, then filling to 50psi...we then warm the dents and as the metal softens and the air expands the dents push out....
