B*gger - Holed Sump
FrankP - 6/3/10 at 04:44 PM

What a day!!
Working on tuning the car and taking down the road - (I live on a private road). On one of my trips I must had clipped a high brick in the driveway i now have a sump with with a hole in it the size of a 5p piece a 5l of 5w30 oil on my drive!!

So I am a bit unhappy... just as I seemed to be making some progress with the tune as well..

Anyone got any method of fixing this. a temp repair for now and a permernant one later.

Can it be re welded in situ or does it have to come off -

It is zetec engine with a chopped sump already - it has about 3 inches of clearance..
any advice would be great.

Thanks

Frank

i would say its better to take it off and do it, what engine is it?

Must have been a big brick! What sort of ground clearance do you have?

I would say better to take the sump off or if a common engine (pinto/zetec etc) might be worth buying another sump.

I holed my sump last year, and welded it in situ. That was a steel sump, but if your sump is aluminium, I would think you'll need to take it off.

Its maybe done you a favour provided you haven't lost the engine ?

Take if off and have it welded then make a "skidy" sump guard.
