Exhaust clamp problems

I have had trouble connecting the end can on my exhaust to the manifold without it leaking. I have a standard side exit manifold and can system as used by many 7 based cars. The manifold’s external diameter is 50mm and the end can’s pipe is 54mm. The end can pipe sleeves the manifold with a little gap. I used a VW exhaust clamp last time and it worked well. It is about 4 inches long with clamps at each end. Because of the step in diameter the clamp gets a little distorted when tightened. The first time it worked ok but this time it hasn't and is leaking. Does anybody know of an alternative clamp that might be more successful?

Cheers

I used exhaust sealant paste (Halfords) in all my fittings when assembled. It seems to help seal with the different diameter pipes/clamps.

maybe use a thin metal strip as a shim between the two tubes?

angle ends sothere is overlap and some paste - may work better than trying to crush the outer, whcih should have slots cut in it if you want the idmater to reduce else where can the metal go?

Mikalor clamps are very good and i have used High temp silicone sealant RTV Silicone which has done a marvelous job sealing up the exhaust.
