what's the problem, many people would pay for that
But sorry, I have no clue on carbs
Wideband lambda, and a timing light were the two best things i bought.
Wideband lambda works over the afr range 10 - 22.
Basic just a voltmeter + controller will be £100 - 150, or an inovate lm2 £300(logs data, rpm etc).

best bet is to take it to a rolling road tuners for the first tune up.
You might need to change some jets and it's really hard to get this right at home.
after you know all the jets are right setting the idle screws and butterflies is straight forward enough.
you might want to tinker with the ignition timing and advance it somewhat to stop the flames and backfiring.
have you got the vacuum advance connected?
yes the vaccum advance is connected, i need to source a timing light to st my advance......
should have bought a caterham?

Sounds Like timing and a bit of overfuelling. Are you using a pressure regulator ?
My twin 40's did the flame thing when hanging down quickly looks impressive at night
