Remote filter heads?
FASTdan - 12/3/10 at 12:51 PM

There's nothing special about the remote filter heads you buy is there? Ie internal valves or anything?

Reason I ask is I am planning to utilise a slightly modded remote filter take-off plate that I already have - which basically just has in/out ports.

Any particular orientation it needs to be mounted? I wouldnt expect so but thought it was worth checking....

Fit with filter hanging down or horizontal otherwise oil will drain back from filter.

Other than that, nothing to worry about really.

hanging downwards is best - most fileter have anti-drain valve - a flap of plastic behind some holes, simnple but effect but they will drain to some extent via the central hole.

choose the remote filter wisely as regards to the thread - most (from mmeory) are 5/8 UNF (?) and here is a plethora of filters that will fit - big uns - long and large diameter like Range Rover, medium diameter and long like golf, medium short like Ford corssflow and even shorter ones.

a trip to halfords looking in the oil filter boxes will leave you astounded by the choice avaialble.
