Got the car started this afternoon. Have a few minor problems to sort out. Started on the first attempt, which was a refreshing suprise.

Theres 2 oil leaks, one from the filter housing where it meets the block. So will have to have that off and seal it with flange sealant as obviously the gasket alone isnt good enough. There is also 2 pin holes in the front of the sump, which is rather annoying as I leak checked it with water before painting and fitting. Looks like I need to find a way of sealing them both up...

Other issue is with the idle speed which I cant get below 1200rpm at the moment, even with the throttle completely closed. May have to talk to titan/cosworth about this problem

Aside from that everything else seems to be okish.

There are a couple of videos on youtube, apologoes about the camera work, busy checking for leaks and stuff as I was going around.

The charger isnt connected up, or the plenum fitted just yet as I need to finally balance the throttle bodies and iron out a few other issues before fitting the plenum. You can hear the charger whining away in the background.

Re sump if you know where its leaking being steel it will be easy to tig it ?

lovely flak. sounds nice and fruity, should be even better driving along with the charger hooked up and on full throttle

did you pressure test the sump? its probably the the crankcase pressure that has shown up the problem spots. 2 little pin holes first attempt is good going on a fully welded construction sump to be honest.

Spot on David, been out in mine today for the first time driving round with the Studiotuner autotune on.

I had two small leaks from my sump, took it off over the winter welded the holes up and now its leaking in the same places worse than ever!

Thanks chaps It was relieving that it ran ok with no strange noises.

The most concerning problem at the moment is my idle issue. I need to drag the speed down as at 1300rpm its running massivley rich and with about the right ignition advance. If I lean it out to the correct sort of idle mixture the speed just keeps creeping up more and more.

Just been speaking to a very knowledgeable chap who has given me a few ideas to go at.

FYI
Finding weld leaks, fill sump with diesel and apply talc to the outside of the sump.
Or vice versa. Diesel only needs to be sprayed on the seams really. Diesel will find any leak.

Industry standard method for finding pinhole leaks when building enormous (80m diameter by 18m high) fuel storage tanks. Its the dayjob btw.

Its a penetrating oil test to give its posh name.

My welding instructor said to use parafin when leak testing my sump - much thinner than water apparently.

I *think* I have solved the pin holes. Though it nearly ended in disaster as I blew a hole in the thin plate. Where it was welded it has been ground back, but just a little too far by the looks of it. I didnt do it though...

well done getting it up and running with only a couple of minor issues.

What take-off plate have you used? Is it a machined finish? surprised to hear that a gasket isnt good enough on its own - that was our intention but now you have me concerned. I dont like 'doubling up' sealer with gaskets, to me it always seems like a bodge, but thats probably just me being picky.
