I usually got for the Busa Throttle Bodies if going injection, but never used bike Carbs before.
What's the general consensus on best Carb's to use? Can any be 'spaced' like the Busa Throttle Bodies can? Are Flatslide's
any good for the road?
They will be going on a 2.0 Duratec.

R1, I like the fire blade carbs. Make sure it has the Tps as early ones dont.
Most 900cc+ bikes have carbs of at least 40mm.
You can respace them like Tb's but you have the fuel conection between them to respace aswell.
Easier to send them to bogg bro's and get them to make you a manifold and keep them as one unit.

R1 carbs are good, GSXR 750 carbs(96-98) are good, ZX9r carbs can be troublesome, don't go for flatslides they're only work properly above 6000rpm! they are difficult to set up on a race bike so they will be a nightmare on the road. I'd go for R1 carbs they work well straight out of the box and theres plenty of them about.

The blackbird carbs were flatslides, and the carbed bike wasn't too hot on low end torque. I'd steer clear as already advised.
Any 'real-world' benefit towards plumping for the 42mm Bird one's over the 40mm R1's???

I have a massive CR flatslide carb on my Supermono race bike and all I can say is its right barsteward to start!
I have to squeeze my hand inbetween chassis and tank to cover the trumpet then smartly pull it away when it fires!!
And, this is an engine that was been tuned and tuned on a dyno for maximum power!

B-bird - 42mm carbs.
They are nicer still but fetch more money. They are also spaced further apart.
Ive got a set of R6 TB's that iwas going to use on the zetec. 38mm i think they are.
I have CBR600 carbs on my car - they were fairly easy to respace (see my website - link below).
Helps a lot if you have access to a small lathe, but not essential.
I chose to respace as it meant that the manifold was far easier to make...
