anybody know what modern diesel will bolt straight onto type9 box / bellhousing
I don't think there's any newish diesel that'll bolt straight up, but anyway, modern diesels have so much torque that surely they'd shred a standard t9 anyway ?
ok any sugestions
There was a bloke in PPC magazine who fitted a VAG TD to his Westfield, I can't remember what gearbox he used though...
I'll have a thumb through my back issues if no-one else remembers
I seem to think he spent a fortune on a bellhousing and kit. Toyota gearbox seems to ring a bell......
This might be of some help?

Does the Ford Transit (Not Connect) use a Type 9 Gearbox?
Alternatively look out for a more modern car that's diesel & rear wheel drive.
Jags and BMW spring to mind - you could possibly use the running gear from a complete 1 series which almost has same size footprint a "7"
Saying that, I was in a friends 307/8? 110HP 1.6HDi last weekend and I was amazed at how thrashable it was, and it still did 45mpg.
Maybe a mid engined alternative might be the way to go.

What about a Sierra diesel?

Would love to have the Diesel out of my everyday Tintop in the Indy. I have the BMW 123d - Basically a 2.0 litre diesel with twin turbos. A smaller
one and then a larger one for further up the revs, make it less laggy and then helps with power / torque when both spool up to together.
Amazing really - it does over 200 bhp and still returns 40+ mpg. Have seen mid-50's on a steady run - and a 0-60 in 7 seconds (pre-bluefin
)
is not too shabby either.
Have had mine "looked" at by Superchips, and it is now Dyno'd at 252 bhp - with an increase of torque as well. Not sure on the weight
of the engine, but this in a Kitcar would be rather quick I think - If you could stop the rears spinning I guess with that torque.
not sure about type 9 but pretty sure a primera (about 98 shape) diesel will mate to the 200sx box,but they were only about 130 brake when chipped....
Often thought about a small diesel in a kit car. The fuel economy would be second to none if you get it right, and the torque would be quite addictive
i shold think.
Anyone into Tuning Diesels? It wouldnt be right to have a standard diesel, but a "Tweaked" 1.4 or 1.6 would be quite nice if you could get
the power out of it.

Trannies werent type 9. mt75's. The new ones are like mt75's and im sure will mate to the mondeo duratorque engine but would be very
heavy.
Vag engines would be the best engines to use. If you get an early AAZ 1.9 you wouldnt need any ecus and stuff then and would still go well. Even the
early AFN 110bhp. then all youd need is ecu and throttle pedal and remap to 150. Apparatly with different injector nozzles and a couple of other
little bits you can get 200 and in a 7 youd get well over 70mpg.
Im sure an adaptor plate wouldnt be too hard to make up for a decent gearbox.
Really cant see the point of a diesel in a very light weight car. I wouldn't build a se7en for fuel economy - how many miles a year does everyone
do in their cars? Too much torque and you'll just end up spinning the wheels all the time.
The guy who built the diesel Westie bought a 3.14 Sierra diff of me 3 years ago or so.

BMW 4 cylinder engine is the best bet --- lots available from Rover 75s. Because it used a simpler turbo the version used in the R75 is more
reliable than that in the BMW or Freelander.
131 hp but an easy 155hp via black box.
However while it might pull like a train in a big heavy saloon or 4x4 a disels draw backs are going to show up much more in a light sports car it
just won't be free revving enough and like any moder engine it needs lots of electronics to support it.

Vauxhaul Isuzi diesels will mate up to a 4x4 Isuzu box.
My old 1.5TD Corsa was a rocket ship with some 'mods' to the turbo and pump. Only downside was the amount of black smoke when the pedal was
to the metal

The Transit is available as either FWD or RWD.
