replaced the flange plate on an exhaust made by someone else, and been used a lot?
i've got the exhaust header from an XE red top, and i'm finally going to get the plate changed to one for my XEV ecotec.
just a bit worried that when i cut the flange off the pipes, all the pipes are going to spring out all over the place...
whats the chances?
Weld brace across the back of pipes close to where you are going to cut and remove after job is done.
^^^^ as above.
so its pretty much definitely going to spring apart then?
cool, will do that then
cheers
Forgot to say weld brace underneath so when you grind the tacks of you cannot see them and yes it will spring.
good plan! will try and do it underneath.
i'm trying to think if its possible to do it without welding....
i'm thinking like exhaust U Clamps round the tubes, with the, er, bottom bit (?) the bit that slides onto the U, welded to a steel bar. then
maybe it can be removed easier?
will it hold as well though?
We cut ours off (MK pinto manifold) and welded on a duratec flange - didnt appear to be much spring in the headers at all.
Think it would work, what like using a bit of sturdy flat bar and drill two hole for each u clamp at the correct spacing. Pretty sure that would
work. Especially if you made two sets at placed them opposite each other.
I'm a lazy get though and would just weld the flat bar on and grind it off when the new flange was on. In fact that is what I did!
Depends on how lucky you are, with me it would deffo spring!
Cheers

I left the original flange (cvh) on and welded a Zetec one on top.
I'm no welder and this made it a lot easier to get a reasonable result.

piece of scaff bar and scaff clamps?
hmm, i was just out looking at it again. the pipes don't all come out sort of flat, cylinders 1 and 2 go up slightly, 3 and 4 go down a bit, then all start wiggling about. its going tpo be quite difficult to do it any way i try i think
