bike carb conundrum
boggle - 28/3/10 at 07:36 PM

hi everyone

i received my suzuki zx9r bike carbs on saturday morning and on inspection found what appears to be something odd....

on the inlet airfilter side their appears to be what looks like two brass jet things??

the center ones appears to be blocked???

is this right???

also am i right in thinking that the top hose connectors vent to atmosphere and the bottom two are fuel in???

sorry for all the questions, im a bike carb novice and know nothing about bikes...

cheers

barry

I believe it is fairly standard to block that hole up - its an airbleed but some say it should be blocked, some say it shouldnt.......

Those are the air corrector jets and the fact that they are blocked already suggests they have been fitted with a dynojet kit - it is part of the set up when employing bigger main jets and more defined needle transition, why only the middle 2 I am not sure as we normally block all 4 but it may be because the middle 2 cylinders get hotter and these have been done to deliberately richen the mixture on these 2 cylinders.
You are correct on the hose connections - top 2 float bowl vent pipes - leave open
bottom 2 fuel feeds

Andy

Top connectors - yes they're breathers, and yes at the bottom its fuel in.

I wouldnt worry about finding the blocked holes - buy a TTS jetting kit and it'll tell you to block them up no doubt anyway - you'll probably even get putty to do the job!!!!

Yep, I've seen that blocked up many times usually with a small bit of that ali welding/soldering rod, that said, whenever I've seen them blocked, all of them have been blocked, never just the two central ones, however I would leave them be until your rolling road session.

Cheers

Rich

Many dont bother with this - especially as its not likely to get used in the winter. Try without and see how you get on
