Want to get some new rods for the 3sgte engine, wondering which type of rod is best. Looking at oem spec they seem to always be I, although it is
cheaper to make, so this might be why.
Revs will be a max of 8,000, probally will stick with factory limit of 7,000.
Thanks
Darren

What are the OEM/standard rods rated at?
Most will withstand a little more if you use lighter (forged) pistons and everything is well balanced.
Might not be worth the expense of fancy H beam rods unless you're going to rev high.
Something I've read about on Pintos is the use of modified Fiesta diesel rods which are a close fit and stronger than the older style Pinto OEM
rods. Maybe there's a locost approach...?
If you are building a super dooper engine you might consider using the carillo rods used in nascar engines. There are loads on american e-bay some new
some crack tested some a bit iffy. I have bought several sets for as little as £50 plus about £20 shipping. Not bad for a set of 8! The journals are
"honda sized" 1.885' or thereabouts which is about right for your engine. They tend to be about 6" long but some are shorter - you
might need to reduce the compression height of your pistons or use thick gaskets.
It is easy to have a crank ground down to fit the rods.
Nearly all american piston makers will make custom pistons.
Cheers for the replies.
I am looking for a moderate increase in power in the future so was thinking of upgrading the rods and most likelky the pistons if I can get a
reasonable price.
Thanks
