Strange misfire

Any ideas?
Pinto DGAV with K&N in the airflow, FR32 cam, Aldon dizzy. Has just developed a dreadful misfire. Seems to be ok with engine cold but as soon as it warms up (5 miles or so) it won't rev past 3k with an open throttle. It misfires badly like a harsh rev limiter effect and can be switched on and off by opening and closing the throttle. Doesn't get any better after distance - I've just done about 50 miles and it's still the same. Tried driving in 2nd gear and with very light throttle could get revs up to 6k but any further throttle opening, at any point in the rev range, leads to a dead cut that recovers as soon as the throtle is closed but if the throttle is left open it just winds down and won't pick up.
I thought it could be carb icing but left it running and reproduced misfire when stationary - the throttle venturi is warmish on it's heated manifold so seems unlikely.
The car seems happy to go all day as long as you don't floor it - might be good for economy and speed limits but no fun at all!

Blocked main jet or accelerator pump diaphram split?

Assuming fuel is flowing ok i bet it is an ignition fault. Whenthe throttle is open the VE is high, so the spark cannot jump the gap.

Classic fuel problem symptoms.
Start by removing and clearing the main jets,

Also check your valve clearences. Too tight and you'd get those sort of symptoms.
