1300 - 1600 xflow swap
FASTdan - 23/4/10 at 07:58 AM

A colleague of mine is planning to purchase my mates 1600 xflow tomorrow and swap it in 1 day on sunday to replace his tired 1300. He's doing it in the workshop at work so needs to get it done in 1 day so any complications need to be avoided.

Are there any potential differences he needs to be aware of? Or should it be a nice easy 1-out 1-in affair?

The 1600 block is taller, Burton says 7/16" but I someone thought it was a bit more than this last time this came up. Obviously the entire cylinder head including inlet manifold, carbs and exhaust manifold will all be raised up by the same amount, so fouling problems may rear their ugly head. 02GF74 went through the swap last year and ended up with quite a few chassis mods.

Apart from that the engines are externally the same i.e. engine mount locations, alternator brackets etc.

Not entirely certain on gearbox - he bought the car with the 1300 set up in. However it is a 5 speed - so presumably a type 9?
