Hiya I am a new member and this is my first post. I am interested in building a locost with some superb performance from the word go so i wont have to fiddle about tuning and spending a fortune on turbo kits and stuff afterwards. With this in mind I am prepared to put up with a bit more trouble to do this and to fulfill my ambition. so can anybody tell me a little more about the K20A2 in the civic type r? such as it's rotation, suitable gearboxes etc... or can you recommend anyone i can contact or any K20A2 locost drivers? thanks to all who read/reply. keep up the good work peeps.
Welcome
The honda you want to use is the s2000.
All the other hondas are rotationally wrong....
And get along to the stonely show first w/e in may good to see what you want to do
cheers

Any reason you want that particular engine? ie, you already have one or somehing like that?
There are plenty more well trodden paths that will give you blistering performance for less ££

it looks like 2 differences of opinion so far... one of you says it spins correctly, one of say it doesn't. it's not like i have one to use but i liked the idea of a high revving sweeeeeeeeet sounding engine but with the conveniance of reverse in a simple package. ideally i'd do a hayabusa but i reckon that'd be alot, plus 6 volts, no reverse unless you quaife it....etc s2000, thought a bout that too. that'd be awesome but getting hold of one hard due to rarety of them in scrappers.cheers
theres a few of them fitted to westfields off the top of my head and they don't go everywhere backwards
.
There is a way of flipping the diff for the other honda engines but its a no go area.
again AFAIK the K20A and the F20C are the two which are easy to use.
Also there are some high revving toyota engines you could consider like the 4-age which are more common and much cheaper
Welcome to the madhouse.
You will need reverse even if you go with a hairdrier engine
.
I do love the sound of the honda's but i have also been told that they spin the wrong way. You could always build a middy if you wanted to use
that particular engine?
K series engines do spin the correct way, it was the B series that didn't

Going to be much easier to go with something thats rwd - for the money and power I think zetec is the way forward - spend more for duratec or go for a
bike engine. You'll find that even relatively low power engines will give amazing performance due to the light weight of the cars. Think about an
elise, light but not much power and still very fast, even a heavy 7 is lighter than an elise!
If you go a less trodden route it will take longer and probably cost more (your time/sanity has a price too!) Why are you set on the civic engine?
There's an S2000 equipped MNR on here, Graham, sure he'll be along and you can ask him all the pro's and cons
be sensible and go B.E.C.

There's a tidy installation.
Hmm do I see a supercharger there on the left? If so... I'm wondering what kind of specs this installation puts on paper and at what cost...
i am using f20c form an s2000 in an mnr mate. check out copart web site. there is usually plenty on there at reasonable money! i paid £3.5k for a 2003 car with 20k on the clock. am using engine/box. prop.diff, dash, clocks, steering (with stalks and switch gear) and some of the loom and am selling the rest! already got over £1.5k back and still got loads to to sell. if you need any more info feel free to u2u me! dan..
Hi thanks for all your replies. i have thought alot about the toyota engines too. thought a 190hp t-sport engine would be good. am I thinkin by your sarcastic remarks (i'm gonna fit in well on this forum) that most bikes these days are 12v?????? if this is true then i really should get out more! i didn't know that. The s2000 is my number 1 choice, k20a2 next then BEC. Can't make it to stoneleigh but i am going to newark kit car show this year. would be nice to meet you guys and see your setups. gregg.
