H22a honda engine size

Not really locost, more class 6 autograss!

Planning on putting a h22a motor in the front of a saxo. Car has already been converted to take a k20a but with the cost of those I'm looking at the h22a as a possible alternative.

Anyone know how different the h22a is in terms of size and engine mounts?

The one thing with grassers that amazes me is what engines get transplanted in to what.....and the number of units in a chassis.
Much respect on that front.

I was going to get back into grassing a couple of years back & was going to use the H22a motor, I bought 2 with gearboxes & ECUs etc.
It is a physically big motor, & weighs a fair bit despite having an alloy block & head, it's got balancer shafts on the sides of the block that make it fairly wide. It's a fair bit bigger than the Vtecs from the CRX, Integra etc, it'll be a tight fit in a Saxo, best do a bit of mearsuring before getting you wallet out!
I think the k20a might be totally different, it's the motor from the latest generation Hondas is'nt it? I'm thinking it's a conventional layout with the engine on the right & gearbox on the left as you sit in the car? The earlier honda engines like the H series are the other way round with the engine on the left & they spin anti-clockwise. If my thinking is right it'll be no easier than using any other make of engine to replace the K20a, mabye even harder with all the stuff being opposite hand.

I do think the H22a has a lot going for it though, cheap to buy, 200bhp+ stock & so long as it's not overheated or starved oil etc it should be pretty bulletproof.
I've still got a gearbox to fit one from an Accord if you want it & a set of 4 45mm throttle bodies from a Ducati bike that would mabye suit it!

These Honda big block engines are pretty big and tall , Rover used the H23A3 (no Vtec) in the 623.

One thing to keep in mind is Honda bhp figure tend to be a lot more optimistic than those of european manufacturers.

Some good points there. The reasons stated for it being a good option are the same as I was thinking. Having not had a real look at one yet, i've not seen the diadvantages listed.

I should say that the front of the car has been space framed so a little more space than normal.

Any one got any other ideas for engines? Main thing i'm looking for is a reliable 200ish bhp. What about duratec?

bmw 328 lump, with a 325 manifold(intake) they make about 220bhp standard and are cheap as chips, there's one on e36coupe.com for £150 with box/ecu/etc etc.
