4age 20v and Polo Rad
Worzey - 9/5/10 at 02:51 PM

Anyone running a 4AGE 20v with the Polo Rad (vw304)?

Just thinking about replacing my sierra rad and thought this would be the way to go.

The 4age tends to run fairly hot so wil this give enough cooling?

I have just done the swap on my 16v 4A-GE.

Once I eventually bled the system it sits at 85 degrees whilst on the move, absolutly no problems.

I heard the bleeding can be tricky. Got any tips?

Fill the system with boiling water and slowly. I ran it upto temp about 4/5 times and just kept opening various pipes.

I also fitted a new sucker fan and an oil cooler. 1st run out was to Stoneleigh and worked a treat.

Drill a 1/8 hole in the thermostat and position the hole so it is at the top when installed. At the rear of the head on the water outlet casting install a fitting to bleed the air out of the head. I used a tee fitting that came in a rad flush kit. It must be the highest point in the system. Fill the system slowly with the cap off the bleed fitting. Bounce the car or just let it set of a while. Then close off the rad cap and fill the last cup thru the fitting at the rear off the head. I use this method all the time and have never had an air lock.

Hi Worzey I hope things are well.
I hope the 4age is running well. Im running a polo rad with my 4age. I have an oil to water exchange instead of an oil rad. So the rad does both oil and water. My temps settle below 100 but I dont know exactly, Im to busy driving it!

I can have a look if you want? Also if I was you I would also consider some more venting. I have a heat shield plate between the exhaust and water hose. I also have a big vent above the exhaust manifold so it chucks all of the heat out there.

Its a really good set up (I hope) and Justin has had no issues with it yet.

I get to test it out properly next weekend as Im doing my first track day on saturday.

See you soon.
