Quick fix needed
norfolkluego - 15/5/10 at 10:32 AM

I've lost one of the trumpet socks off the carbs, don't think I can buy another one locally so will have to order off t'internet and get it posted, trouble is we're sprinting the car at Woodbridge tomorrow.
So in the best Apollo 13 tradition, how can I make something temporary to protect the carb with just the stuff I can find in the garage or house.

Aluminium gauze?

Couple of pairs of tigths zip tied over works fine, flows enough air through while maintaining decent filtration - the only thing I would worry about is larger stones/pebbles going straight through

They used to be on the ring road but havent used them for a few years now..

Tights can cause a significant restriction if you simply stretch them over the trumpet - the filtration area is a small fraction of even a filter sock which aren't very good to start with.

If you can find some reticulated foam you could make your own temporary filter sock, glue it together with contact adhesive and oil it to provide some dust retention.

This won't

Unless it's dry and dusty I'd be tempted to run with open trumpets for a couple of sprint runs. Anything temporary is unlikely to filter very well, and is almost certain to restrict flow.
