damdy-cash - 16/5/10 at 09:47 PM

Hi There,
I have a got a used Dunnel head and wonder how I can figure out whether the head is skimed or not and if how much.

Can anyone advice please?
Edit: its a silver top

Find out the combustion chamber volume of a standard one then measure yours with a pipette and liquid and compare.

ok, that would be the way if it is skimed to find out the ratio.
First I would like to understand whether it is skimed. For that I would need the head height or combustion height of a standard one. Right? If so, does someone know the height's?

Check to see if there is a published head thickness - cam cover face to head gasket face. A difference from spec (smaller) will indicate skimming.

ive measured two silvertop cylinder heads and thickness from cam cover to head gasket face one being 132.9mm other 133mm. if it has been skimmed to increase compression rather than just a re-face would expect at least 0.5mm been taken off so should be obvious if you measure yours against this.
hope it helps
