Oil cooler lines. Can i make up my own?
Antnicuk - 19/5/10 at 09:25 PM

I am currently using the stock Mazda Oil Cooler and lines but i am going to run a second cooler.

Is it possible to just buy suitable rubber hose and push on and clamp fittings and make up my own lines or do i need to go to some one like pitec andhave them made up?

I dont really want the expense of buying braided hose and -10 fittings as the lines would end up costing a fortune.

i should add that when cold my oil pressure runs at about 80 psi!

I got bits and bobs from Merlin, my zetec iol pressure can go up to 100psi and my lines are OK...

Plain hose on barbed fittings with hose clips. Sound.

I made mine. My cold pressure is 100psi +. I think it is rate to 250psi.

The only disadvantage of rubber hose is its temperature rating is a bit lower than the braided stuff. But still much hotter than you would want your oil to be.

i would prefer to run the 2 coolers in paralell using a Y split so the oil pump doesnt have to work as hard. My engine and cooler uses Banjo bolts to attach the oil cooler lines which makes i a bit more complicated. If i could get the banjo's with swaged tailes and then a couple of why splitters, i could easily sort something out.

that assumes that there is equal resistance through both coolers and without seeing manufacturer data, you cannot know that, and even if you did the amount of hose to/from the coolers, their position etc will skew that data.

you are better off with one larger cooler.

and yes, U have use the special barbed push on fittings for oil hose that aren't even supposed to need a clip but I put one on anyway; not had a line come off.

Mine runs about that and i made a U bend to bypass the oil cooler (no room) and that was a push on with clamps. One thing though, i forgot to fit clamps to it when i first did it and the result was this:
