adrianreeve - 7/6/10 at 06:16 PM

My engine came with no flywheel, and now I'm putting one o , I'm not sure whether or not there were washers under the bolts. Can anyone tell me?

Cheers

Every bolt needs a washer under it.

The Zetec I built a couple of years ago didn't have any, just a dab of threadlock and torque up.

Not true for all engines, some have lock rings, can't remember seeing one with washers though??

Id have to disagree,

Sorry, it's a silvertop 2litre Zetec, for some reason, just assumed everyone would know what engine I had!

A zetec has NO washers. I have never seen washers under any flywheels bolts. TBF the only bolts in an engine i remeber seeing washers with are head bolts and not all of them have washers.

No washers......
But do use ARP bolts and thread lock for that extra safe feeling as you will (eventually) rev the nuts off it.
ARP bolts are about £16 of eBay and very strong.
I also added a dowl for extra security.

no washers on crossflow flywheel nor cylinder head bolts.

Ususally washers on Ali to prevent galling when torquing

You would normally use a washer under a bolt (it's good engineering practice) but there are always exceptions.. Do as ford do to be safe...
