Just been informed that you cant refit the sump on a mx5 engine with it connected to the gearbox it has to be separated. Not much good if the engine and box are fitted in the car.

Seems a bit odd but..............

The Zetec Engine is the same . The sump tucks into behind the fly wheel /shit plate so you should really remove the Gear box and remove the fly wheel to re-fit - PITA.

Same for the Xflow - although you can just about get away with separating the engine and gearbox by an inch or so.

When you say 'should really' does that correctly imply that the sump can infact be removed without taking the flywheel/gearbox off?

Certainly the cvh goes on and of with easy which has been useful in the past.

Looks like your have same luck as i am ... one step forward and two steps back. When do you think you will be back on the road .... Is the Gairloch blat in doubt?

On the zetec the sump catches on the poo plate (what is the technical Name)
and complete **** to remove. Then spent 2 Hours (with oil dripping on me) once I got it out trying to refit. Was sooooo tempeted to just whip out the engine but couldn't be bothered.

Next time i'll remove the engine..
