Hi,
Engine in our locost is a bit tired and smoky, can anyone recommend a good exchange / refurb provider near surrey? Or otherwise of a good secondhand
unit for sale?

I'll say it before anyone else does - why spend money on such an old engine, when you can get a zetec for next to nothing? You will have to
spend some money adapting stuff to make it fit, but you'll have higher power output and a much newer engine.
...and this is a dedicated x-flow owner saying this!
valve guide smocky or rings does it only smoke when cold

While I agree with what you are saying about a morden Zetec, there is something very alluring in an old fashioned engine like a xflow in a Lotus 7 type car![]()
And at least with a Xflow you know you chassis won't get a chance to go rusty with all that oil flying around the engine bay
just a few years back you could buy them in SA new from ford for 800 rand.......
Sell the xflow to the classic ford boys...they will munch your hand off.
Don't get me wrong - I do like my x-flow and I'm not rushing to get rid of it. But if it should need significant money spent on it then it will get changed rather than fixed.
check Newark engines on ebay (trade under letterslost) or contact them (yellow pages). they have recon blocks and heads.
there is also burton power and vulcan engineering.
^^^ whilst I'd agree with the zetec route -(I have 2,m don't ask) but fitting one would mean bonnet bulge and I did not want that - even
going from 1300 to 1600 block I had to make engine mounts for it to fit!
