Hi all, i am running a std mondeo 2.0 zetec and gearbox mounted mid engine with a 0.75 master cylinder.
The problem i am having is that when i put my foot on the clutch gently (pushing down slowly) it doesnt work, almost like it has no fluid in it. I have just changed the slave cylinder as the old one started leaking and was giving the same problem. If i push on it fast like you would when changing gear it works fine. I have bled through at least 1 litre of fluid but still have the same problem.
any suggestions?

Would point towards the master cylinder at fault if the slaves a known good unit. Have you any potential airlocks in the system that might make bleeding difficult?

thats the area im looking, i wandered if it is too small but doing a search on here it seems that most people are using 0.7 or 0.75.
i dont seem to have any areas for airlocks that i can see, tried to keep the pipes as level as poss.
I have been told to try pressurising it but how do i do that?

in your application - pump the pedal till it's correctly operating the clutch, hold it - then release the bleed, and repeat - though this often doesn't help I find

when you are bleeding it are you getting any more air at all?

Thats what ive been doing, it then seems to get a good pedal. I then push it down slow again and back to square one.
It doesnt seem to have any air which is the confusing thing because thats what everything seems to be pointing at.
Its like air is trapped somewhere but i cant see where it would.
I have also double checked all the joint are tight just in case.

I think i'd be swapping out the master at this point, if you have one to hand, but I wouldn't be 100% on it

How about blanking the line between the master & slave cyls somewhere so the fluid has nowhere to go, you should have a rock solid pedal but if it creeps down with steady pressure then it means the seals in the master cyl must be leaking internally.
It's not all that common though for a master cylinder to fail like that without showing some other fault/symptom such as an external leak.

Thats sounds like a good idea, will give it a go tomorrow.

would quite like to know the best size master cylinder for the mondeo slave myself actually

i have now tried locking off the hose and the pedal was as solid as a rock, i then put my foot on it slowly and got the same problem so i guess that i have a faulty master cylinder.
