Have you blocked off your EGR? How did it work out - is it worthwhile?

How about de -cat is it worth the effort?

I rum my Mazda V6 without EGR and no cats - but then I run megasquirt and throttle bodies........

Its an oil burning thing

No egr and no cats sounds good but better horses with expansion chambers

Seriously for the everyday oil burning barge (mondeo 2.2 in my case) is it worth the effort?

I have done it on my 3.0 Trooper.
Seems to pull better now.

Standard practice for Discovery TD5 owners to remove the egr system. Gains are small for very little outlay but in conjunction with other mods can make al difference in performance.
Best part is stopping all that hot air going back through the engine...

What other mods?

Free flowing air filter and a set of hi clones for under a £100 with the egr blanked off gives a very noticeable increase in bottom end pull. Any more and your looking at a remap and larger intercooler and thats when the serious increases begin.....

It's done by a few on the volvo D5 - the biggest advantage to me is that you stop the crap being recycled through the clean air side of the intake like this

Mine was exactly the same on inspection, but I also had a goosed intercooler which was causing all sorts of problems and pumping black smoke out like it was powon coal. All seems fine now though (apart from a slipping clutch which is going to set me back a pretty packet!)

Isn't EGR about cleaning up emissions (i.e. burning it again). The only problem my Pajero has ever caused me was the EGR valve packing up, horrible mettalic rattle thought the turbo was on the way out), had it changed for about £100, every other Paj owner I've met was amazed I'd replaced it rather than blanking it off for about £30.
