I have been thinking about my buggy project, now, I would love a bike engine but, It is an off roading machine, and I do not think that climbing huge
hills is going to do it much good, including all the water and mud etc. I know that rage build one, I am now thinking of diesel powered???!!! peugeot
1.9 td, I can tune one of these to about 110bhp with some tweeks and an intercooler, estimated weight should be around 550kg. what do you think??? It
should perform quite well and have bags of tourqe off road. Plus its a very cheap option, I have an engine and box, wiring is as basic as ever and I
do not have to worry about a chain diff and reverse....
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Get a raised air intake and you can go through some deep water as well!

the only problem I see is that with Diesels in lightweight cars is that you get no sound insulation so they can be a bit noisy.
But I have a BEC with a solid mounted engine, so I am already a bit deaf already.

Either a Mondeo 1.8 or a Rover T16 going in my off roader, just depends on what gearbox arrangement I decide upon.
So its either 150 or 210 bhp!
Engine in the rear so noise should not really be a problem, does anyone know the power of the corsa 1.5 td engine?? it looks quite compact!!
I think this could be a good time to discuss torque over horse power!!!

if its for off road mainly then i think the reliable and simple 1.9td lump would be perfect and plenty power

i think a 1.9 vw tdi would be the better choice, an early one with a bosch mechnical injection pump is easily
tuneable.
the current engine is a 3 cylinder petrol, I need a very narrow engine and gear box assembly, I think I can probably go 120mm wider...
Does anyone have any length measurements for the vw tdi engine and box?? corsa 1.5td?? peugeot 1.9td??
try and see if you can fit a ford transit engine they are made to carry 3.5t or a transit connect
if your 3 cylinder is from a corsa then the 1.5 may just be the simplest option as I imagine that the gearbox would be similar/same except ratios. And a small petrol engine is likely to have very low ratios indeed ideal for off-roading...
BEC it, my mate built 2, one blade powered 2 seater and a 600 powered single seater, did about 120mph flat out (regularly - bouncing off their
limiters in top up the forestry roads) awesome things.
It's only the same power charecteristic as a 2 stroke and keep them singing and they'll go up a wall, I've never had any trouble (on 2t
bikes)
Also depends what your definition of off road is, if it's more like WRC then BEC it IMHO, or if you want to go crawling about then yeah you could
use a diesel I guess

sv/tl1000 lump, they have got lots of pull and should be quite available/not too expensive
