Following on from my previous related threads, I now have achieved, by increasing airflow, a stable running temperature of between 85 and 90 degrees Centigrade.

I'd be interest to hear what temperatures other cars are running at.

hi, i run a 1.6 pinto running at 82 deg, some times lower on the motorway

Only had mine at idle on the drive but ran between 85 and 91 degrees when the fan kicks in.

Tuned 2037 pinto with 88 degree stat max running temp in all weathers is 90 degrees c

Normally run 83deg at low to mid revs with cool weather but when using full revs and hot weather 20deg+ ive seen temps of up to 110deg so i will need to look at options for better cooling for engine (954 Fireblade).

85 when standing in traffic or hot trackday can go up to 90

No hotter than it needs to be - 75C

thank god for that, mine (2.1 pinto) runs at 70 to 85 and i thought that was way to low..

i wont cover the rad up then

trying to get that down to 86

90-95 stat is fully open at 100deg and starts to open at 88.

Most modern engines run around 90deg ideally.

Too cold isnt necessarily a good thing.

85-95 generally, up to 105 on track.

215 my bloody clocks are US spec!!

My 2.0 pinto runs about 90 ish, fan cuts in at about 95-96 on the acewell, temp sender in the head, stat is 92 IIRC, fan switch halfway up a polo rad, that's in the garage, no airflow over it.

89-92 all day long. Fan kicks in at 104... Puma 1.7VCT (Zetec SE).

Many thanks for the great response. Quite a spread between you but the consensus seems to be, around 90 is good.

errrr... currently between 110 and 130...

hence it's back in the garage being rebuilt - again!

In case this is of any help, to bring down running temperature I have done the following;

1 Fit a VW349 radiator. This is the model fitted to the Polo 1.7 and 1.9 diesel as well as the Seat Arosa etc. This is slightly higher and wider than the small Polo rad but the inlet and outlet stubs are at the same centres. The rad is also thicker and must have plenty of capacity for our needs.

2 Increase the size of the air outlets under the bonnet and this is what has made the most difference. In fact it dropped the running temperature by at least 10 degrees.

I had already boxed in the rad to ensure that all the air coming in had to pass through the rad rather than go round it.

well after a long period of head scratching I can finally say she is back on the road - overheating fixed - cross fingers!

temps now are roughly as others have stated above - wont go over 90 even when ragged then parked!
