I'm helping FFTS to take out his Pinto engine from His MK Indy - then putting one back in.
Not a problem, but I thought it was worth asking if anyone has any tips to make it go smoothly.
We intend to remove the engine and gearbox together.

Don't forget the clutch cable, don't forget the throttle cable, don't forget the coil-to-dizzy HT lead, don't forget the earth
strap, don't forget the speedo cable, don't forget the reverse light switch connector.
All from experience
pretty easy to do, three of us lifted my old pinto out in about 30 mins, just get as much stuff out of the way as possible, radiator, headlight mount
bar etc easier with alternator and starter off, jack car up as much as possible to allow a bit more angle for lifting the engine clear. like me dont
forget to take gearlever off !!
oh and dont bash your brake pressure switch on the way out..

I just remove the engine i find this is the best way
Put a jack under the gearbox to hold it up
or a piece of wood across the foot well tops with a rope round the bell housing to stop the box dropping
Watch out for / try to stop the oil running out of the gearbox when you take the prop out and lift the engine.

Cheers got all that, it's just manipulating the lump out and weather theres any little tips to make it a smooth removal and re-install.
More worried about lining up the splines (If we split the engine and box) when we put it back in.
Only a problem if you take the clutch off, then you need to align the friction plate with the spigot bush in the crank, a spare input shaft is an
ideal alignment tool.
Anyway, whats Chris doing with a pinto? he had a drive full of BECs when I was there.....
He's had this one a while but the block cracked, so after many months out of action and nowhere to fix it, I offered my services and garage for a
few days (just sold my Caterham hence, empty garage).
Hopefully my garage will be full again soon.

As its a Pinto, you'll need an engine crane. This one should do it...................
