Can anyone shed some light?
Last year I did a bit of a re-furb, including my Weber 45s. Car has since been stup on an RR - everything is generally fine.
I've noticed that when I fling the car round tight right handers (and roundabouts) the car splutters and runs rough for several seconds
afterwards.
I'm absolutely sure it's a fuel issue. My first thought was fuel starvation, but:
1. The symptoms are more like flooding and sometimes (if I stop immediately and investigate) I'll get a bit of black smoke
2. It has a regulator and decent fuel pump
3. The pick up from the fuel tank is on the passenger side
Any ideas? It only lasts a few seconds and it's only on right hand turns. 2 litre Zetec on 45s, megajolt, filter king regulator and solid state
fuel pump.
many thanks
Dan
Dan, similar prob. on my set-up improved (but not totally cured) by fitting a larger float chamber needle valve. This improves the refresh rate in the
fuel chamber.
Difficulty of course is in deciding whether the problem is over- or under-fuelling since it happens for only such a brief period. Needle valves are
rel. cheap though.
Northampton Motorsport should be able to sell you the necessary and are normally generous with their advice.

brim the tank with fuel and try again, do you have a swirl pot on the fuel tank?

no swirl pot will be needed with carbs. The float chamber will run them for minute or two with the fuel pump off.
The problem as you have pointed out is over-fuelling. Solution.....I am going EFI!
The Des Hammill weber book has a "fix" for the problem, but involves fitting an overflow to the float chambers to stop them over-filling.
However there is bound to be another fix somewhere, it does seem a common problem.
Oil surge ? Just a thought oil splashing about being forced through the crankcase breather and sucked into the inlet.
Dan's crank case breather goes to a catch tank.
I had a similar problem where my car would cut out on roundabouts mostly but also other right turns.
As it turned out, it was the ignition switch on the back of the barrel, I bypassed it for a couple of weeks (hotwired it) and then replaced the
switch, since then all has been well.
