Evidently i need one for my zetec head for the new head bolts, so i've purchased one.

The thing is i've looked at it and looked at it again and i'm buggered if i know what its all about.

Why cant we stay in the old fashioned world of torque it up to a certain amount then torque to a final amount.

I'm sure one of my trusty advisors will enlighten me while i fetch another bottle of home brew

I have always been able to estimate 90° quite accuratly.

The stretch bolts need a linear measure of tension after the slack has been taken up, 90° is a quarter of the pitch of the thread (no sh!t sherlock!)

Can you post a picture of the angle gauge Bob? If it's the type with a "leg" then you locate the leg against the head, cam etc to stop the leg moving and the zero the gauge before tightening the required angle . Some later torque wrenches like Snap on and Draper incorporate a digital angle gauge that allows you to tighten in stages whilst using the combined ratchet until the desired angle is achieved. Haven't used my angle gause since getting one at work.

You can get a cheap one from halfords under the laser brand.

In the good old days of the pinto you would tourqe it up then run it up to temp then re tourqe it. you wouldnt want to do that on a zetec .

OK big thanks lads i really should of done some googling on this before i purchased, the tool will i'm sure come in handy but it sure could be locosted with a protractor and a piece of card/ali.

we always use a circular card segmented and slotted over the torque wrench and align urn through 90 degrees. never had a failure with this method
