Has anyone got a photo of a Type 9 Gearbox mount in place on a book chassis? Is it common place to use rivnuts to fix it, or is there a better way?

I would have thought rivnuts were a little on the weak side for this application.

I did mine by replicating a rivnut- but with an M12 nut.

In simplest terms:

Drilled a 14mm hole in the face of a piece of 25mm box.
Cut an access slot in the opposite face
Dropped a M12 nut on the inside face of the drilled side and welded it in place via access slot.
I then sealed up the open ends of the box and the access slot.

Another way is to make up weld in bushes, Cut piece of rod correct length to go from bottom of tube to be flush with top surface of tube,ie for 16 gauge 25mm ews would need to be 23.4mm long. drill & tap for the desired bolt size, drill same sized hole in tube, drop in & weld in place. A chamfer around the top edge would give a stronger weld. Choose the size of rod appropriate for the size hole you need. ie 8mm bolt. use 12mm rod, 12mm bolt use 16mm rod. I`ve seen this done by a commercial frame builder & it works very well, great for seat mounts, g/box mounts & similar application where rivnuts aren`t really up to it. Cheers, Steve.
