Hi all,

Just wondered who goes where for head gasket sets? Flea bay seems to vary sooo much in cost and apparent quality? So whats the best option, local motor factors? even main dealers?

depends what you want it for - for a racing engine go to a specialist, for a bog standard engine how much does it matter?

A lot.. as I found out on some occassions..

Unfortunately I still haven't figured out a surefire system of getting a good OEM head gasket.

Had a few good ones, had a few crap ones (all sorts of makes).

Genuine ones have never caused problems and on some cars don't cost much more than OEM ones (20% premium).

I wouldn't say that your local factors is any safer than ebay to be honest.

Like a few others on here, I always use 'Gaskets for Classics' - good prices and I've never had a problem with their products..

Payne or Reinz make nearly all the OEM gaskets.

For my crossflow, I used Wilcox engines - chap was helpful and discussed engine requirements before recommending what gasket I should have. Prices were very reasonable.
