Exhaust collector cad work needed.
scutter - 15/8/10 at 09:19 PM

Folks, I'm currently having trouble getting my head around how each individual pipe is shaped (fish mouthed) in a 4-1 merge collector.

I was thinking, would anyone with CAD knowledge be able to draw one up then seperate the pipes or does anyone have a pic of a single cut pipe.

If sizes were needed how does 1 3/4" or 44.5mm tube with a 15deg angle into the collector, as thie size pipe could be brought ready bent.

This info could be useful to quite a few people, so thanks wouldn't only be mine.

ATB Dan.

Theres a bit of a `how to' guide here

Thanks for that Claire, I kinda know the theory, it's just getting my head around the shapes without going through £60 of steel tubing

I'd tack it together and get the coded welders on camp to finish the work.

I can stick it together for you in Solidworks (might need to give me till Tuesday/Wednesday).

Just let me know exactly what angles you want the 4 pipes coming in at, and the OD/ID (so I put the right thickness in) of pipe.

I have cobbled together a quick model in Catia - I've saved the individual runner as an .igs file, and also the assembly (four of them together) as another .igs file for reference. I have also attached the .CATPart and .CATProduct, just in case you are able to open those - the operations I used to make the models are exactly the same as you use in real life - two "flat" cuts up the sides, then one cut across the top.

(how do I attach the zip file?!?)

(subsequently emailed the zip file. This site needs to allow attachments within the forum!)
