Quick K series answer needed

Evening all,

I've just spotted an engine on Ebay that is described as having noisy tappets. Any idea how easy a fix this could/should be? Will it need new tappets, or just an oil change and a good thrashing to clear it through?

Any advice/hints/tips welcome!

Can't help you with that specific question, but my K is a bit tappety on startup. Seems Ok on the move, though (or I just can't hear it any more!)

If it was me I would try to find one that has not got noises. It could be a can of worms. There must be loads of good uns about.

Steve.

When I worked on them, the first thing to do was lift the cam cover and have a look. Worn cams are obvious and will need changing. If just noisy due to oil flush and change then that will be obvious too, ie. no wear on lobes and nop wear or obvious signs on ANY buckets. Some times the buckets can become 'faulty' and this is usually manifested by a discolouration or 'blue-ing' of the cam face of the bucket. Solution, change the faulty bucket.

Your problem is that this is on ebay and therfore will be sight un-seen so it will be very much 'Buyer Beware'.

edit bit
And remember some people would not know a cam rattle from a Big End rattle.

hope this helps

Sometimes tapets can become noisy or start clicking when the oil is low.

But i would avoid any noisy engine.

Not a VVC is it? The VVC mechanisms can wear and cause top end noise.

This one wasn't, but I do ideally want the VVC version.

Thanks all, I'll stay clear of this one, especially now it's gone past the cost of a couple of VVC on there already.
