Shortening Ally Sump?
garage19 - 8/6/04 at 07:53 AM

I have an alloy zetec sump that a friend needs shortening and baffeling.

I was just wondering if anyone has found a true locost way of doing this yet.

An expensive sump from raceline/dunnell (£250+) is simply out of the question so I thought I would try the collective ingenuity of this forum

To start you off, my first thougts were a bent and rivetted bottom section sealed with an epoxy resin???

Thanks,

Doug.

I found someone to weld mine for precisely £10.

I cut it down and made the new bottom then took it along and watched as he welded it, slipped him a tenner for his troubles

He welds for his work and did it as a 'foreigner'

I have been wondering about welding something up from sheet steel to replace the alloy one - need to ensure good flat mating surfaces of course.

Tiger had a nice alloy cast low sump for their ERA cars on Stoneleigh. Cost "only" 150 pounds, and looked good.
But I'm also looking for a cheaper alternative though.....
