Starting a C20XE
Cozza - 19/9/10 at 08:37 PM

Hi folks,
Bought a part-built kit recently with a red top in it. The engine and Manta gearbox are mounted. I don't really know the condition of either. What's the minimum I need to connect up to run the engine? I've got an ECU but not convinced it's the right one. Any advice greatly received!

Is the ECU a standard vauxhall item if so tell me the 0 200 number off it a I should be able to tell you what it is from.

Some details from what I believe is a standard Bosch ECU:

2-row connector made up of 1 row with 17 pins and 1 row with 18 pins

Part number 0 265 100 029

Serial number 8479906

Any thoughts?

Sounds like an ABS ECU for a Rover 800

ECU numbers for C20XE

Can not seem to find that part number.I believe all c20xe engines have 3 rows of pins on the ecu.So you could be right in thinking it is not the correct one.Are you intending on running the standard injection.

You're joking! That's not gonna start my car then lol. What to do? Go down the programmable ECU route?

MikeRJ - 21/9/10 at 03:49 PM

Either find a compatible Bosch ECU, use an aftermarket system (Omex, Emerald, Megasquirt etc.) or bolt some of those prehistoric carbs on the side.

Thanks. I'm thinking about going down the route of Weber 45s of bike carbs. Won't I need an ECU of some sort for the ignition side?

Your options are get a standard vauxhall ecu for your engine will need engine if you do not have one will be cheapest but would of thought that stanard injection will not fit under the bonnet.
Option 2 is to fit carbs bike or webers you would then need something to control ignition a h and h distributor, old cavalier one or ignition only ecu like megajolt.
The best option but also the most expensive is throttle bodies and fully programable ecu.

Edit last post you will need a engine loom NOT A ENGINE.

Cozza - 22/9/10 at 07:57 PM

Thanks Matty H. There is a wiring loom with the engine. I think it's complete. I take it that I would need an ECU along with the key transponders?

Been there and done all that over the past year mate. Injection wont fit so forget that one. For easyness go 45`s and an old MBE ecu if you can find one(912,956 etc). If you look on recent posts there is a chap going C20LET and will be binning the 956. Mail me if you want to know anymore or need anything.
