Is there a way a can clean my filter locost style? ie not having to buy the £15 pipercross cleaning kit?
Can I dilute degreaser and give it a bath in that, rinse with warm water, clean to dirty side and then let it air dry?
Or is the only way to do it properly
with the kit?
I use to always clean my foam and pipercross filters with soapy water and then just let them dry well. The amount of crap you see come out will
reasure you that any cleaning in better than none.
Dont be pedantic about it, its just an air filter!!!

You still need to coat it with the dirt retaining oil or the filter will not be fully efficient
I cleaned my K&N filter in the sink with washing up liquid (water flowing from clean side through to dirty side).
Dried on radiator.
Sprayed it with ITG oil (Lars had a can, thanks Lars). Probably different to the K&N stuff, but filter oil can't be that different can
it?
Seems to work, and the manifold air pressures were not affected (so not blocked).
Its one advantage of running disposable engines. You can try things out and see if it works. This seems to.

I bought the cleaning kit and it didn't seem to be any different to a simple degreaser like Gunk etc. The oil was .... well, oily
