Hi - part way building through my f27 IRS. Engine and gearbox mounted and oil put in gearbox and there appears to be a small leak from the gearbox.
Engine has not been run with gearbox engaged as yet ( not sure if that makes a difference or not)
The leak looks as if it is coming from the bolt that has the ID tag on it. I have given them all a quarter (ish) turn and there still seems to be a
drip from the same area.
Any thoughts on how to resolve - perhaps another 1/4 turn? (ideally without having to take the engine and gearbox out) or do I have bjg trouble in
little china?
Thanks as always
matt
If the tag is on the rear of the box (ally tail housing, 5th gear cover) then it points to the gasket between steel box and ally cover.
A quick fix but may not last long is to remove the bolt, put some gasket paper and blue Hylomar behind the head.
Loctite Lock & Seal
Cool - so, bolt out, paste some loctite or similar on, and then bolt back in? Will the locktite work if it is in contact with the oil?
