I am just finishing off my alternator bracket on my 1998 black top zetec engine.
Now on to the water pump. I have read in a few places that I need a 1.8 escort water pump, but then I remember someone else telling me I don't with the black top engine.
Can anyone tell me which is right?

1.8 water pump turns the opposite way to a blacktop one.. and it will not fit the cassette type pump on the blacktop.

It was a swap for the 2L silvertop which ran the opposite way.

All you need is an idler to run the pump the correct way.....

That would make sense.
