Hi I have a r1 5jj engine in my 7 a big problem iva is on Monday and it's stopped charging
I have already swapped rectifier and stator and no difference
I cannot see anything else to try does any one no if there is a fuse/relay or something else that could have failed
It did charge last month but it's stopes now
??????
Are the replacement parts you've swapped out tried and tested - i.e known working ones?
If you've got a multimeter there are tests you can do to check them in the haynes or yamaha service manuals - basically measuring voltages and or
resistances.
On my Busa if the main 30A fuse that's on the starter solenoid blows I lose charging. Likely to be similar on the R1. If it is the main fuse blown you'll need to work out why it blew. It's happened to me twice, first time was a faulty FIA switch that was randomly earthing the ignition loom via the ballast resistor when the switch was on, second time the starter solenoid escaped from its rubber mount and I think touched the chassis.
If the main fuse blew would I notice anything else stop working ie starting etc etc
if the main 30A fuse in the solenoid blows, the starter circuit might not function, cant remember off the top of my head, however if it does work,
then it will start and run fine for as long as the battery has power, but the battery will not be charged by the alternator.
the fuel injection system, the fuel pump and ECU are on their own supply and fuse, once the engine is running the power from the alternator will
supply the rest of the system, BUT cant get power to the battery if that 30A fuse is blown
I think from memory on my old 02 R1 that the starter would still work when that fuse went, but cant be certain
but its a simple thing to check and change
you should then have something around 13.8v at the battery.
if you havent then check wiring connectors first, then look at the alternator, across any 2 wires of the 3, you should have an AC voltage of about 80
I think, but more importantly is that the 3 combinations are all the same.
if so then thats fine, next will be the rec/reg, need a DVM with diode test facility to make it easier, will post that info if you need it
Wher is the main fuse
Located is it on the little black box that splits the main 12v feed from the batt It's surrounded inna rubber mount
?????
sounds like it, usually its also found on the starter solenoid, so trace the wire back from the starter motor, will be a unit with 2 nut terminals,
one side to battery, one to the starter motor, quite often its on the side of there, under a little sealed cover, or in a seperate housing like the
one at the top of this pic

Yeah I checked that this morning there was no fuses in it at all so I put two in it and it made no difference
But there has never been any in it and it did a track day a few months back and I have seen 13.8 volts on the dash
So I'm struggling to think of my next move
Thanks for the help lads
some solenoids just have spare holders so they do nothing, just somewhere to store spares LOL, have you got the seperate inline one in the wiring that branches off to the main loom
Awsome found a brake in the red cable of the rectifier added a new permNent live to the battery and it's now at 14v
had a real productive
night tonight
Thanks to all you guys for all the comments
