hi all, i will be rebuilding a pinto soon, and just wondering should i go standard bolts, or arp bolts?
the crank will be replaced with a balanced one with a lighten flywheel which has been balanced with the crank, and con rods worked on till they where
the same weight. the head will be a big value head as well, with a spicy cam in case that will change what bolts i should use.
need to find a few more horse out of the 1.6 this winter, until i am 21 to fit the proper engine i am looking at
cheers

for a 1.6 I think I would use new standard bolts - the ARP bolts are probably over kill, so save your cash for the new engine when you are 21
cool,
so just out of interest relay when would you need to use the arp bolts? when running stupid compression? or something else?
cheers

under 7000 rpm the standard ones are fine. If you want to rev the engine to over 7000 or so rpm then you might want to consider the ARP bolts if you go to approaching 8000 rpm and above then you probably need them.
Might make a case for some ARP flywheel bolts. I've seen them shear.
The ARP flywheel bolts are £14 so you may as well fit them.
The crank has a predrilled hole for a dowl, so I fitted that.
The rods will go to 7,000 with occasional 7,500 but at this the bolts are the first to go.
It is realy a case of setting a rev limit and keeping to it.
perhaps a rev limiter would be prudent.
Any cam you put in a 1.6 will feel more cammy than in a 2.0 but you could take the cam out and put it in a 2.0 later, same with any ARB bolts you
buy.
With a bit of thought, any goodies you buy for the 1.6 could be swapped to a 2.0 later.
The ARP bolts can be used more than once if care is taken when fitting and dismantling.
cheers, i have all ready got a doubled dowled flywheel with arp bolts
, so if i go arp con rods bolts and get a rev limiter, i should be good, i need
it to rev high for the cam
cheers
