More zetec help needed

Peeps,
i am fitting a decompression plate to my 2000 zetec and need to buy a pair of head
gaskets.I can buy what i would call normal fibre gaskets for a tenner each,
or multi layer gaskets for 50 quid each

Do you all think the ten quid gaskets will be ok?

I wouldnt use two ten quid gaskets under boost. Its asking for it.

the fibre gaskets would be the better option of the 2 because with the multi layer gasket you have to have a true/flat finish on the cylider head and the engine block

let me check my garage in the morning. I know i have 2 but dont know where they are from. Would get pictures up and you would know if its the one you want.

personally i would not use them as well but if the surface is not true then the multi layer gaskets would not seal

Better of stripping the engine and fitting forged low comp pistons and forged rods its the only way to do it right

Thanks for the info lads.

My prefered method would be forged pistons but the cost at the
minute is out of the question.I dont want to run huge boost so i am going to
have a go with the decomp plate as i have already bought it.
If i doesnt work then,i will have to find the cash for a set of pistons.
Reading other forums builders have had quite good results from using a plate,
then again others have said it wont work.

Once again,thanks for the help.i appreciate your informed opinion's.

The only way to do this right is to use low comp pistons. Your engine is far more likely to suffer detonation with a nasty plate and gaskets set up. The squish area between head and piston is also adversely effected and will reduce combustion efficiency. It is good practise to deck a block so that the pistons reach the top of the bores. You are doing the exact opposite employing a plate!

If you do go ahead with a plate and intend to run any worthwhile boost then use the multiplate metal head gaskets such as Cometic ones, but as has been said, you will need near perfect mateing surfaces!
